Rules of dating a frenchman
Feeling totally unprepared, I consulted an expert, my dear friend, Google. As it so happens, I did manage to stumble upon an expert through his blog called Ask A Frenchman, which has some very useful information (um, that I can only hope is accurate). It is so funny to see how some social behaviors are exactly the same between France and the US, and others are completely different. Well, this was a big shock to me when I arrived in the US. I understood of course a man and a woman could be interested in each other in a romantic way, let me reassure you.One of the very obvious difference is the dating game. But I was not aware that accepting to go out to dinner with a man alone gave the signal that I was possibly romantically interested in him.Overall, the gist is that French men and women tend to court through dinner parties and larger groups, and if it progresses they go “on a walk.” Weird. But, anyhow, when it comes to kissing (NB that this excludes random, drunken make-outs), here’s what Ask A Frenchman has to say: But in a dating situation, kissing on the lips, and especially French kissing, means one and only thing: you wanna be in a relationship with the person.
Olivier trusts me, and we both trust our friend(s), who would never make a pass at me.It's not a 'tie down' or a concept that you are automatically exclusive with a person. In the States we discuss serious relationships after quite a few dates; kissing, affection or hugging are normal in dating..Whether you’re currently seeing a Frenchman, or have one in mind (you sly girl), you may start finding you have more and more miscommunications as time goes on.Even if your man comes from a country associated with romance and love, that doesn’t mean he loves learning about other dating cultures.
